The oldest pocket knife available. The portrait hallmarks is of King George III. Unfortunately, the hallmarks have partically rubbed which makes the origin and maker of the knife unknown. However, the design is typcial of those in fashion in the late 1700s so is very likely from that part of his reign.
The mother of pearl handle has fine silver details set into the mother of pearl. One scale has some light cracks through the mother of pearl as is shown in the image but it is structurally sound.
The blade is solid silver, which is softer than stainless steel, it cannot be used on hard objects. Such pocket knives would often be carried to cut and peel fruit which is why they are sometime called fruit knives.
The action is nice and tight and the blade straight with the handle when open and flush when closed. The blade is in very good condition and features fine engrave work and the initials of the original owner. The piece is 145mm in length when open which is on the large side for such knives.
The last picture shows a small piece of silver which has cracked and can be easily felt when you drag your finger over it. The knife has been discounted accordingly.
