The shell would have been much larger but has been polished back to a shell of pure mother-of-pearl.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe shell has been traded to China where it has been hand-carved in the early 1800s. The Chinese carvers were the best in the world and this is a fine example of the very best of their craftsmen.
