Description

Crafted in the fashionable Chinoiserie style that swept through Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries, the box features hand-painted gilt scenes of figures in garden landscapes, delicately framed by swirling cloud motifs and floral borders. Its scalloped form, raised on carved and painted feet, gives it a striking silhouette from every angle.

When opened, the interior reveals a set of matching lacquer gaming trays, each adorned with vibrant painted symbols, figures, and motifs. These trays were traditionally used for card games, counters, or other parlour amusements—making this piece not only decorative but also historically functional. The interior lid features elegant gilt sheaves.
