Description

The standout feature of this knife is finely carved mother of pearl handle. It is high quality mother of pearl which almost certainly would have been carved from Australian pearl shell which were exported to England from the 1800s. The handle has a clean sterling silver name plate which will allow the new owner to apply their own initials.

The hallmarks are not all well-defined but the makers mark is clearly that of George Unite. One of the buffed hallmarks confirm it is genuine sterling silver; not silver-plate or stainless steel which are obviously significantly cheaper.

The action is nice and tight and the blade straight with the handle when open and flush when closed. The knife is 145mm in length when open which is on the large side for such knives.

The blade has various minor blemishes and a minor bend at the end. The knife has been discounted accordingly. Overall, it is an impressive piece.
