Pocket Knife by James Fenton, 1910

A fine English antique pocket knife by James Fenton, dating to 1910, with a sterling silver blade and carved mother-of-pearl handle. A particularly well-preserved example in excellent condition.

The beautifully figured mother-of-pearl displays an attractive natural iridescence and is complemented by the finely formed sterling silver blade. Clear English hallmarks confirm the silver standard, maker and date.

Silver-bladed fruit and pocket knives were fashionable personal accessories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Silver was particularly suited to cutting fruit because it resisted the corrosive effects of acidic juices, while the folding form allowed the knife to be conveniently carried.

The knife retains a firm folding action, with the blade sitting straight when open and flush when closed. Both the sterling silver blade and mother-of-pearl handle are exceptionally well preserved.
