Description
A Colonial Vietnamese serving tray crafted from richly toned hardwood and decorated with finely engraved mother-of-pearl inlay. The central panel depicts an idyllic East Asian garden landscape featuring a pavilion, bridge, trees and birds, surrounded by circular landscape reserves and delicate floral motifs.
The shell inlay contrasts beautifully against the warm timber ground. Pieces of this type were produced in Vietnam during the French colonial period and reflect the fusion of traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship with decorative styles popular in export markets of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
An attractive and practical decorative object, ideal for display on a coffee table, desk or sideboard, and an appealing addition to a collection of Asian decorative arts.
Good antique condition with age-related wear, minor losses and surface marks consistent with age and use. Please refer to photographs as they form part of the description.
