Description

An unusual and highly decorative antique cigar cutter, modelled as the head of a wild boar.

The piece is richly detailed, with the boar’s head finely worked to show the texture of the fur, while the handle is decorated with a naturalistic pattern of oak leaves and acorns. Small contrasting pins add further visual interest, and the sculptural form gives the piece considerable character.

The body appears to be silver plate, while the cutting mechanism is formed from a harder white metal. There are no visible hallmarks, so the maker and precise country of origin remain unidentified. Similar examples suggest a Continental European, possibly French, origin.

The cutter measures approximately 14 cm in length and the mechanism remains intact.

A distinctive piece of antique tobacciana and a particularly appealing object for a collector of unusual silver, sporting antiques or decorative curiosities.
