Description
An elegant and highly decorative pair of late 19th to early 20th century straight razors by the renowned Sheffield cutlers Josh Kirkby & Sons. Each razor is fitted with beautifully worked mother-of-pearl scales, carved and inlaid in a refined Art Nouveau floral design, displaying the iridescent lustre prized by collectors of fine shaving instruments and vanity accessories.
Both blades are signed "IUP – Josh Kirkby & Sons, Sheffield" and are presented in their original fitted case with crimson velvet interior and embossed exterior. The combination of Sheffield steel craftsmanship and richly ornamented mother-of-pearl handles reflects the height of gentleman's grooming accessories from the period.
A striking collector's set, suitable for display, inclusion in a shaving collection, or as an example of decorative Sheffield workmanship.
Condition The razors and case are in excellent condition for their age and use. The mother-of-pearl scales remain particularly attractive, retaining strong colour and lustre. Please refer to photographs for a detailed assessment of condition.
