Description

An unusual English antique pocket knife and button hook, dating to the early 20th century, with a finely carved mother-of-pearl handle and key ring attachment.

The beautifully figured mother-of-pearl has an attractive natural iridescence and is the standout feature of the piece. The key ring attachment allowed it to be conveniently carried with keys or other personal accessories.

The knife incorporates a slender folding steel blade together with a folding button hook. Button hooks were commonly used during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods for fastening the numerous small buttons found on gloves, boots and clothing.

The exact maker and date are unknown. The knife retains a firm folding action, with the blade sitting straight when open and flush when closed. The blade and mother-of-pearl are both in very good condition.
